Refunds reduce expenses, not income
Purchases, refunds, and expenses after refunds are tracked separately. A merchant or tax refund reduces expenses in the period when it arrives, so it does not inflate income or rewrite the original purchase month.
When Martia finds exactly one earlier purchase, it copies that purchase category once. When the refund evidence is strong but the category or purchase is not certain, the transaction enters the same monthly review as other decisions.
Review, link, or reject it
In review, you see why Martia treated the transaction as a refund and up to three matching purchases from the previous 90 days. You can choose only a category, link a specific purchase, or mark “This was not a refund.”
That correction applies only to this transaction. Martia does not create a merchant rule from it, and it remembers the rejection so later syncs or backfills do not restore the wrong refund label.
